I'm going to be going to Las Vegas in a few weeks and haven't been in ages. I'm not much of a gambler at all, but I'm just curious that, with the computerization of slot machines, are there still any casinos that have the old-fashioned one-arm bandits where the wheels spin around and clunk, clunk, clunk into place? I tried using one of the computerized ones to get rid of some quarters when I was in New Orleans and really didn't get much out of the experience, except for $50 back, but, really, there wasn't any kind of feedback coming back from them that a totally blind person could appreciate. At least with the old one-arm bandits there was that moment of anticipation when the wheels were in spin and you could hear them in action.
There really aren't any of the old traditional one armed bandits like you're talking about, but there are still machines with reels. You tend to see them more with the larger denomination machines, like dollars and up. But, you can find them in quarters and nickles as well. You'll probably have better luck finding reels downtown rather than on the Strip. You'll see quite a few machines that are a combination of reels and computer screens. They have reels, but also have a computer screen where you play bonus games. Don't dismiss the computerized games completely. If you find some you like and get familiar with the sounds, they can create the anticipation you're talking about. For instance, I love the Goldfish machines strictly because they have great sound effects. I love the music, and know what all the sounds mean, so I know what's going on and still have a great time even though I can't see the screen. Same thing with the Star Trek machines, Hot Hot Pennies, some of the Monopoly machines, Mermaids, and several others. Most of the computerized games make some kind of a clicking noise as the reels stop. You really just have to play with them and listen. I actually find the computerized games to be more fun than the traditional ones because most of them have pretty complex sound effects that are very amusing.
Thanks for that info. Perhaps I'll try a few out.
I've gone to Atlantic City many times and have played several of these computerised machines. I was born in 1983, so pretty much missed out on the good ones, except when I played in the children's arcades for tokens. But these days, you have to use cash instead of quarters and all you get back is paper. Maybe, it's different in Las Vegas and they stil have real money or casino dollars. But I don't like getting just a strip of paper that I then have to go to exchange for real money (they don't even give you coins then but cash) and hope that the people aren't jipping me. At least, I could've counted the coins and know how much I had and also keep better track of how much I was spending as I put each coin in the slot. While some of the machine have cool sounds, I'd rather keep my money, stay home and play a computer game for that., even slots.
I played slots back in the day when you had to mess with coins. I like the paper receipts much better. Coins were a pain. They got your hands all nasty and you had to wait in lines all the time to change them out. Plus, when I first started playing slots, you couldn't even insert bills in them so you had to go buy coins before you could play. It wasn't too long before they started putting bill readers on machines then you just got paid in coins which was a little better. I just found the whole coin experience to be inefficient. Total nuissance. I like being able to collect my paper receipt and just stick it back in a machine. You have a point about keeping track of how much money you have though. I usually gamble with sighted friends so I can always check with them to see what I have. And I can read my receipts with my KNFB Reader mobile as well. I never put any bill larger than a 20 in a machine. It helps me keep track of what I lose. If I end up with a ticket with a lot of money, it goes into a separate pocket until I can convert it into cash.
you should play a machine called Super Jack pot Party The wheels spin one by one and it makes a lot of noises I can't see that well and I love playing this machine
